Florian Gadsby: Small Cylindrical Lidded Jar

Forming part of the By My Hands exhibition collection, wheel thrown by world-wide renowned studio potter, Florian Gadsby.

High iron stoneware, dark green feldspathic crackle glaze, twice reduction fired to 1290ºC in a gas kiln.

Please take care when washing - by hand is the best option. Sharper edges can be susceptible to chipping if they’re bashed so please handle your pots with care.

PLEASE NOTE, this is a decorative piece due to it being reduction fired a number of times. They are inherently weaker objects, so should be washed by hand and kept out of a microwave and whilst the iron surface is very molten and fluxed, it could leach, so if used, please keep it for trinkets or perhaps very dry-foods. There are minute fissures, cracks that traverse certain parts of the glazed surface, but like my normal crackle glazes, these don’t go through the clay body itself. These iron-clad pots are my attempt at turning pots that were seconds back into firsts and the pictures do no justice to the iridescent surfaces they have, especially when placed in the right light.
